Do Led Lights Use A Lot Of Electricity? Here’s Our Answer!

The electricity used by a light bulb is measured by KWh. An LED bulb uses 127.5KWh over its lifespan of 15,000 hours.

While Incandescent bulbs used for 15,000 hours (for theoretical purposes; an incandescent bulb cannot last that long) will use up 900KWh of electricity. 

Now, the cost of electricity per KWh will depend on the area you live in. 

Difference between a led light and a bulb

A light bulb is probably the first thing that comes to mind when we think of lighting. But the term ‘light bulb’ actually refers to a type of incandescent light bulb, and it’s not the only type of lighting.

  • Bulbs take 15 minutes to light up and die in only 1,500 hours.
  • Bulbs are basically old-fashioned light bulbs, which are made of tungsten and filled with halogen gas.
  • They produce a soft white light and are usually found in lamps and ceiling lights.
  • They last a long time because they are made to withstand high heat – they are not designed to be energy efficient.

How long do led lights last?

That’s why a watt-per-LED rating is the best way to compare the power a led light uses to light the LEDs.

In a typical light bulb, the filament is heated up to produce light. However, LED lights have no filament, and instead use a semi-conductor to produce light.

This means they emit 100% of the energy they consume.  A LED light uses around 90-100 watts, which is about the same as an incandescent light bulb.
